WHERE
ARE THEY?
Go to one of the 'List' pages, where you will
find that some stories and poems sport the
distinctive
icon.
Click on the icon and, if your browser supports
this, the mp3 file will start streaming
immediately.
WHAT
ARE LIST PAGES?
They are the pages on the Tintota Website which
give immediate access to the huge,
and constantly growing, Tintota Archives.
The
ORANGE
BUTTONS
at the top left of
this page are the place to start.
STREAM OR DOWNLOAD?
Some browsers will require you to download the
whole mp3 file before you can listen to it.
If so, decide where you would like the file to be
stored on your computer.
(I use Desktop initially, as it's easier to keep
a track of stray files there, and then move them
to
a more permanent location later.)
When you have downloaded the file, double click
on it,
and it should immediately open in your default
media player.
You can then listen to the story as often as you
like - even when you are not on the Internet.
WHAT
DOES 'STREAM' MEAN?
Streaming is where your browser starts to play an
mp3 file (or radio) as it downloads.
You will need a reasonably fast Internet
connection to accomplish this satisfactorily.
If your connection isn't up to it, then you will
suffer breaks whilst your computer catches up.
In this case, you might be better downloading
instead of attempting to stream.
MY
BROWSER WANTS TO STREAM, SO HOW DO I DOWNLOAD
A FILE?
Instead of left clicking on the Living
Story icon, right click on it,
then choose Save Target As or something similar
from the resulting dropdown menu.
Say where you want the file to be put, and wait
for it to download.
OLD
TECHNOLOGY
If your computer is 'old technology' and doesn't
have a media player, then you can download
one from several places. They are free.
If you would like details, just drop a line to
Tintota,
making sure to tell us which version of
Windows you are using.
HOW
DO I FIND OUT WHICH VERSION OF WINDOWS MY
COMPUTER USES?
Click on Start (lower left-hand corner of your
screen.
Click on Settings (if your computer doesn't have
this, go to the next line)
Click on Control Panel.
Click on System.
Click on General (if it is not already open)
Under 'System' you should see which version of
windows your computer uses.
That's what you will need to send to Tintota.
SHARING
If you would like share a Living Story
with someone who hasn't got a computer,
there is an easy way to do this:
Download the file or files you want to share, and
then burn them to a CD or DVD.
Any CD or DVD player will play them without a
problem.
Portable CD players are readily available quite
inexpensively.
