So Easy To Forget

 (A Tribute)
(Namaste is a formal greeting)

Today, I am so easy to forget.
For you, my friend,
With whom I walked a spell in life.
I am now so easy to forget
A drooping eyelid and then another,
And that is all it took.
Now I am so easy to forget.
I am forgotten.

I am forgotten as sharply
As a sudden drop of dark shutters.
I have ceased to be for you.
I'm so easy to forget.

You have gone where I cannot follow.
To a land of forgetfulness,
Your memory a sigh five minutes past,
No longer even a ripple in the air.
So easy to forget.
I am forgotten.

As you lie so still,
Not doing anything at all,
Anything at all that is under the sun.
Your tongue forever stilled,
I am forgotten.
So easy to forget.

Though I rent my clothes in grief,
Tears coursing down my cheeks,
Leaving ridges
Where once the skin was smooth and unbroken.
Though tides of violent emotions
Churn beneath this breast,
You will not answer.
For I am so easy to forget.

My smile,
The furrows on my brow when in deep thought.
My silly nose, my mind, my thoughts, my gifts…
So easy to forget.
When your lips turned blue.
My moments, gazing at a sea of tulips,
Seeking your face in a crowded station.
Learning a new tongue, seeing a new way of life,
Adding something more to me.
Namaste.
So easy to forget.

Though I weep,
You will not console,
Your fingers are frozen stiff,
petrified in yesterday. Today no more.
At the end of yourself, I am so easy to forget.
Forgotten.

I am easy to forget,
Though so much alive now
Perhaps more that I am robbed of your remembrance.
For everything that you have forgotten, I remember.
I remember for you and for me,
Until my breath too is stilled.
Namaste.
