Are You Frightened?

Are you frightened by the rumbles of the earth
and the strong currents of the sea?

Are you frightened by future catastrophes
that might encumber us again?

Are you frightened by the sight of airplanes
crashing through skyscrapers?

Are you frightened by the thought of evil conquering love?
Are you frightened by the thought that you are alone
in this seemingly chaotic world?

Why must you be?
Go be robust and beat the odds!

Be savage again,
Go hungry and cold like the wolf!

Wrestle life's challenges like a centurion.
The skin on your face will wrinkle,
Your arms will ache for carrying burdens,
You'll grow tattered, worn and frayed,
But you'll walk like a man!
